Throughout the course of making assumptions, the user may have made assumptions at various levels in the chart of accounts. If assumptions at a subtotal level are made or revised, special rules may apply.
If the lower level accounts do not contain any assumptions of their own, the standard inheritance concept applies. If assumptions at a lower level in the Chart of Accounts exist, the user is presented with additional options.
When we click the Save button after having revised assumption at the subtotal level Total Loans this time, the following window pops up, asking how we want to handle the assumptions that we previously made for accounts, types, and items that would otherwise inherit their assumptions from Total Loans:
Reset all assumptions to this account -
Selecting the first option will eliminate the assumptions made earlier and cause all of the accounts, types, and items that subtotal into Total Loans to inherit their assumptions from Total Loans, using the new assumptions.
Leave all accounts with overrides as they are -
Selecting the second option will leave those assumptions entered earlier unchanged, and only accounts, types, and items without overrides will inherit their assumptions from Total Loans.
Prompt for each account that has overrides -
Selecting the third option will give you the option to decide for each account whether to inherit the assumption from the parent account, in this case Total Loans, or whether to retain the assumption entered earlier for that specific account. After selecting the third option and clicking OK , a window like the one below is displayed:
If we no longer wanted the Commercial Loans account to use the assumptions that we made at that account level, but would rather receive the new assumptions from the Total Loans subtotal, we would click Yes.
A similar window will also pop up for accounts where we have made assumptions at the type level. Even if we click No in order to retain the old assumptions for the Commercial Loans account, we still get the opportunity to receive the new assumptions from the Total Loans account at the type level under the Commercial Loans account, with the following window:
You will see a similar window for each assumption made at an account or type level that would otherwise inherit its assumption from the subtotal account.
